The
United States is known for many marvels of architectural genius.
Towering skyscrapers are the norm as America climbs ever higher.
The character of New York State has had tremendous influence on
the American skyline, so it is not surprising that the city of
Albany boasts one of the more curious architectural landmarks
in North America.
The
Egg, found in the heart of Empire State Plaza, cuts a truly unique
profile against the US backdrop. Twelve years in the making, The
Egg is a center for performing arts, showcasing a variety of programs.
Though it is as much a sculpture as it is an architectural wonder.
The Egg sits atop a platform that reaches six stories into the
earth below, and houses two state of the art theatres for music,
cabaret, multimedia presentations and educational programming,
with a combined seating capacity of more than 1400 people.
The
Egg is also available for hire. In the past, this modern wonder
has been host to ABC's Nightline, the NY State School Board Association,
The Albany Symphony, Anheuser Busch events, Second City National
Touring Company, and Bruce Hornsby, among others.
