Six
glass elevators whisk the curious and the courageous 553.33m (1,815
ft., 5 inches) upward to the wonders of the CN Tower in Toronto,
Ontario. First stop, The Glass Floor, so called for obvious reasons.
Unnerving at first, the floor is actually quite safe. In fact,
the 256 square feet of solid glass suspended 1,122 feet above
the Toronto streets is one of the safest floors anywhere in the
world. Designed to be five times stronger than the floors of the
typical office building, the Glass Floor is safe to look through,
walk on or even jump on!
Next, you can feel
the Toronto breeze from the outdoor observation level. Towering
113 stories over the expansive Toronto skyline, the open air and
coin-operated viewers instil a strong sense of just how high you
are. But don’t stop here, there is plenty more to see as you climb
higher to the Look Out Level. This glass walled level is a great
place to stop for a light bite and watch the clouds roll by. Or,
if you are looking for more from your meal, the award winning
360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower offers more than just great
food. The largest revolving restaurant in the world is also one
of the highest, bringing you some of the best views of Toronto
and Lake Ontario.
But without question,
the most striking part of any visit to the CN Tower is the view
from the Sky Pod. Take the elevators from the observation levels
another 343 feet straight up (that puts you at 447 meters or 1,465
feet above the street) for an un-obscured view of more
than 150 km in every direction. Just see if you can spot Niagara
Falls! On a windy day you can actually feel the tower sway, but
don’t worry, the tower is incredibly safe.
The tower also houses
a 12,500 square foot marketplace, a state of the art arcade, and
the Maple Leaf Cinema.
All this is a mere
58-second ride from the ground. You will never look at the earth
the same way again!
